Civil Court Restrains PHF Secretary General’s Powers Amid Legal Dispute

A civil court in Lahore has barred Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Secretary General Rana Mujahid from exercising his official authority until the court rules on a lawsuit challenging his position. The legal dispute stems from a claim by Syed Haider Hussain, who asserts that he is the rightful general secretary of the PHF.

The court order, issued on Monday, stated: “Status quo, qua the functions of the office of General Secretary office be maintained. Further restrained to pass any fresh order under the capacity of General Secretary PHF as this office is under dispute (under litigation) till the decision of this suit.”

Haider Denies Resignation, Challenges Leadership

The controversy originated in October 2023, when retired Brigadier Khalid Sajjad Khokhar, the then-president of PHF, announced via a press statement that Haider Hussain had resigned from his position as PHF secretary. Khokhar subsequently appointed Rana Mujahid to the role.

Haider, however, denied ever tendering his resignation and filed a legal case to challenge the claim. In his suit, Haider argued that the resignation announcement was fabricated and that he remains the legitimate secretary of the federation.

Legal Tussle Escalates

The matter took a dramatic turn in October 2023, when a bailiff was dispatched to arrest Rana Mujahid after he failed to appear in court regarding Haider’s claim. The latest court order, dated January 6, 2025, effectively suspends Mujahid’s authority to issue official directives in his capacity as PHF secretary general.
